Over the last couple of years, ecstatic dance has made a lot of people craving for it. So, what is this dance all about? For those who don’t know about it, it’s not just a simple dance that you see in clubs, parties, or sports, but it is a dance that let’s go of shame, judgment, fear and follows no rules. All you have to do is to dance whatever way you like without judgment.

What is an Ecstatic Dance?

The Tantra Ecstatic Dance is a kind of dance, with no specific dance steps, where dancers would leave themselves to the rhythm and dance freely to the rhythm of the music, leading to a feeling of ecstasy and trance. The effects of un-patterned dance begin with ecstasy itself, which may be experienced at different levels.

Some dancers have described the feeling of being connected to others and to their own emotions. Therefore, this kind of dance is not just about dancing without care of your moves, but it also serves as a meditation that helps people attain serenity and cope with stress.

What are the Dance Patterns?

The dance may not have specific dance steps, but it may be important to put some attention on your patterns and do the steps that you’re not actually doing. Like for example, if you’re not lifting your arms or swaying your hips during the Ecstatic dance, you should make a change and try to do it.

If you dance without any specific moves and without minding the judgments, you’ll consciously begin tomove your feet and you’ll feel like something has shifted inside you. It would feel easy and free at the same time

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone

Let’s get real, once you’ve heard and learned more about Ecstatic Dance, most of you would be too shy to try it, especially if you don’t really dance in the first place. But since the dance is designed to help get rid of your shame, you should try closing your eyes at first until you get used to it.

Once you’re comfortable dancing with random steps, then you’ll be fine. Your shame would slowly fade away, especially if you see that some of your fellow Ecstatic dancers have crazier moves than you. This is also a wonderful way for you on getting out of your comfort zone.

One of the Benefits of Ecstatic Dance

Aside from slowly getting rid of your shame, performing the dance can also help relieve your stress. Stress is often stored in our physical bodies; therefore you can literally release the tension through all kinds of movements. You can even free and express yourself orally while dancing freely.

Final Thoughts

Before you start doing ecstatic dance, you should first breathe in deeply and clear up your mind of all things to focus all your energy on your movements. The more your mind is cleared of things, the more you’ll notice that your movements are becoming natural, which means you’re dancing freely without even thinking about your next moves. This where you are truly dancing ecstatically!
